Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, I played the Sunday Two Hundred Grand Tournament at PokerStars. I was excited and had planned my day around it. I ate well, prepared snacks, showered, called the folks I normally do – all earlier than usual so that I would be free for the 4 – 8 hours for the tournment. Come Awwwnnn, I’m an optimist!
When we stared the tourney, there were ~21,400 players registered. Players continued to register during the first 1/2 hour of play raising the entrants to 26,364.
My first table was pretty boring and labor intensive. 3 players were sitting out, so, it was left to the remaining 6 to play. Sounds like an advantage… it was for a while – but the blinds come around real fast. And, as it turns out, one player kept getting GREAT cards, and when the cards weren’t that great, he/she sucked out on every hand played. It was not fun.
At one point, I had 4040 chips and 8c 8s. I bet $300 (75/150 blinds) in SB pre-flop. The Winningest player re-raised me all in. I had a choice… but I KNEW he had A K, A J offsuit – it would be a coin toss – so I called.
My instincts were close. Player had A J clubs. Coin Toss! The flop came with a big fat Ace and two more clubs [3c As 9c 6d Kh],then nothin nothin, and I was out!
Placed 18862 – top 72% – Yikes! Played 56 hands and out in 42 minutes… Maybe next time, I’ll take the $11.00 🙂
Note: The winningest player busted out in 2804 place, taking home $26.36. At least he made it to the money.
