Yesterday, I watched portions of the final table for Event 5 – Pot Limit Hold’em tournament. It was great to see Daniel Negreanu, Tommy Vedes, and Bryan Pellegrino at the same table. There was some good play from all the final table players. Negreanu was busted in 5th and Vedes in 4th. Pellegrino hung in there to go heads-up against Nick Jivkov.
I watched quite a bit of the heads up battle. Jivkov had the chip lead throughout (usually 2.5 to 3.0 times) – BUT – Pellegrino could not be put down. Just when you thought, “This is it for Pellegrino”, he fought back, and came up with the winning hand at those clutch moments. He even sucked out a 5 on the River to complete a gut-shot straight on one hand that sent the crowd into cheers and gasps of disbelief. Jivkov had been one card away from victory… and yet, it wasn’t meant to be…just yet. They skipped a dinner break, played for a couple more hours, and Jivkov emerged the victor!
