One name that I came across was Adam Junglen. In reviewing his blog, I found an amusing – and inspirational – post called Fun Times at Borgata about his April 2010 experience at the Borgata. Evidently, table mate Igor Borukhov got very angry with Adam when Adam asked Igor to stop folding out of turn. Here’s a snippet from Adam’s blog…

…  Basically, Igor kept folding out of turn on Day 2. I politely asked him to stop folding out of turn and he responded by arguing. He made it very clear he had no idea who I was, so I made sure he would never forget. He suggested we go fight outside after the tournament and I jokingly accepted and stood up. I don’t know what he was thinking threatening a five foot nothing asian kid who weighs a buck-ten (dollar and a nickle w/o leg, lol)… After I stood up, he stood up, then I took off my prosthetic leg, set it on the table and said “Let’s go!”

BAM!

Another Kodak moment. Igor was incredibly embarrassed/red in the face/perplexed/owned, “so sorry bro, sorry man” etc etc. “No worries” .

Come on! You gotta laugh. Imagine sitting at the table with these two guys. I loved Adam’s power play and found his ability to make fun of his situation inspirational. He certainly diffused Igor’s anger at the poker table.

Phil sits down. Changes the hours to 114, and takes a swig from his water bottle.

A few minutes ago, I started checking my sources and all the poker news websites reported that he had broken the record, but, none were giving the final tally of hours. Wanting the answer sooner than later, I decided to return to the live feed to watch the last hours on video. My jaw dropped in AWE…Holy SH*!T, Phil is STILL playing!

Phil Laak has reached 112 hours of continuous play and is on break. The arrow points to his empty seat. Jennifer Tilly, his long-time girlfriend is seated (to the left of the arrow) with friends adjacent to the table.

Turns out that Phil gets a 5-minute break each hour – and – he can accumulate break minutes. I guess that is how he has been able to shower and change, and some say that he actually went for a run! If the conversation on the live stream site is to be believed, Phil has been on break for a awhile and will continue on break for a while. Viewers are speculating that he is napping.

Okay, so what motivates you to continue when you have blown away both the official and unofficial records by over 40 hours? 
I want to know where Phil’s head is at, how long he intends to continue playing, how he is feeling. So, I checked out his tweets…His last tweet from about 4 hours ago.

His friend? trainer @AllAmericanDave has been delivering meals to Phil since last Wednesday, and tweeting about Phil’s progress. One tweet from about 12 hours ago, says that the doctor checked out Phil and is AMAZED at the condition that he is in! WOO HOO!

Now the camera feed is blocked out – but – based on last night’s actions, I know that he has hit 88 hours…presuming he is still at the table. @RealThuyDoan has joined him at the table… She’s been tweeting about it, inviting people to follow along. SHOUT OUT to Thuy…Glad to see you out and about.

Phil changes time to OVERTIME...Antonio Esfandiari came over and congratulated Phil as did Jennifer Tilly on Phil's right.

 Okay. Phil’s going to go for another 11 hours or so. I’m going for 8 hours of sleep and will check in in the a.m.

What’s Phil doing? Phil Laak’s record breaking poker endurance test .

How about you? What’s the longest session you ever did?

This week, Phil Laak is at the Bellagio trying to break the record for continuous play of Poker – the most hours playing poker in one session. I guess there’s two records – one official held by Larry Olmsted of 72 hours 2 minutes, and another held by Paul Zimbler of 78 hours 45 minutes. According to poker news sources, Laak is attempting to reach an even 80 hours.

Phil started on Wednesday and it is now Saturday (3:00 pm Vegas time). You can watch Phil’s progress here: http://acejones.com/unabomber-poker.htm. I saw Antonio Esfandiari there at one point. Seems to come and go from the table supporting his buddy Laak.

I just found this video interview of Scotty Nguyen on Wicked Chops Poker. Footage from July 7, 2009 during the 2009 WSOP.  Standing with Gavin Smith, Scotty Nguyen tells the story of how his car was hit when he was driving home after his first day playing the 2009 WSOP 10K event. 

Poker pro Mike Matusow received a text and a phone call at the same time. Distracted, his foot came off the brake, and hit another car. Yep, Scotty Nguyen’s ($150K) Jaguar! 

I was thinking that Mike could be the new poster child for Oprah’s No Phone Zone campaign since he so candidly proved Oprah’s point about distracted driving.  On second thought, Mike wouldn’t measure up…Oprah is focusing on tragedies to prove her point, and in the Matusow-Nguyen case, no one was hurt and both Mike and Scotty seem cool about it.
