ESPN's Poker Night This Week

ESPN continues its coverage of the 2009 WSOP this week presenting the Ante Up for Africa Tournament.

Aug 11, 8 – 10pm – Ante Up For Africa celebrity-charity tournament played July 2. The 3rd annual no limit Texas hold’em tournament was hosted by Annie Duke and Don Cheadle, and was well attended by celebrities including Ray Romano, Adam Sandler, Charles Barkley, Jason Alexander, Brad Garrett, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck.

Aug 4, 8 – 10pm – WSOP Champions Invitational event played May 31 – June 1. As the name suggests, participation was by invitation only, and invitations went out to 20 former Main Event champions. Winner received the Binion Cup, presented by Jack Binion, and a Classic 1970 Corvette.

ESPN 2009 WSOP TV Schedule

ESPN has announced its schedule of TV episodes of its coverage of the 2009 WSOP events. The episodes will air on Tuesday nights beginning July 28. Most of the shows are two-hour installments beginning at 8pm, but, check the details below so you don’t miss out. All times are EST.

July 28, 8 – 10pm - ESPN debuts its coverage of the 2009 WSOP events. The first show will feature Event 2 of the 2009 WSOP, the $40k No Limit Hold’em 40th Anniversary tournament played May 28 – May 31.

2009 Results for the 2008 November Nine

As the 2009 WSOP November Nine were crowned earlier this week, I couldn’t help but wonder how the 2008 WSOP November Nine did on their journeys to the 2009 WSOP Final Table. Of course, since Phillips and Eastgate went pretty deep, I knew what they were doing.  But how did the others do?

From about 4 different sources, this is the picture I was able to put together. 

The 2008 WSOP November Nine in order of 2009 earnings…

  1. Dennis Phillips eliminated day 7, earning $178,857
    2008 finished 3rd.

Lou Diamond Phillips Makes Deep Run in the WSOP Main Event

In the last hand of Day 5, Lou Diamond Phillips went all in with pocket Kings. Two players called – both with pocket Aces. The board brought no help for Phillips and he was eliminated. The other players split the pot.

2009 WSOP Main Event Sold Out!

WOW – I can’t believe it! Poker pros and poker reporters are tweeting that day 1D of the WSOP Main Event (ME) has been sold out and somewhere between 500 – 1,000 people have been locked out. Those inside are tweeting about how stunned and surprised they are.

Poker Pro Lee Childs (@leechilds) tweets that among those locked out are TJ CLoutier, Patrik Antonius, Sully Erna, & Brandon Adams.

Evidently, there are angry crowds in the hall…
