Where to Follow the 2010 WSOP tournaments online

The 2010 WSOP begins THIS Thursday. Can I be any more excited?  I don’t think so. It’ll get a little crazy here. Trying to monitor Twitter, to find out which live feeds will be made available and to post them and watch those with a 3 hour difference (ah…sleep…not for a while), to post the latest news, and oh, yeah, do my “real” job.

The Action

WOO HOO. It’s that time of year again. The 2010 WSOP starts Friday, May 28 and runs until Saturday, July 17th when the Main Event will play down to the November Nine.

2010 WSOP will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. This year’s WSOP playing surface will cover 120,000 square feet of space and include 377 tables. 

I can’t wait to watch the live action that will be streamed (looking for that schedule and will post it), and follow the live blogs at bluffmagazine.com, pokerati.com, and more.

Having been spoiled by the timely updates and announcements from Jeffrey Pollack the former WSOP Commissioner (who retired from the post at the end of the 2009 WSOP), I have been searching for whom in the WSOP I might follow this year.  You would think WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky would be a good choice. Turns out Seth’s not much of a communicator – at least not online.  Huh? What are we suppose to read the newspaper? Maybe he’s practicing up, so, here’s his online social media accounts in case he comes up to speed in a couple of weeks. Seth Palansky on Twitter: @WSOPRGUY; Seth Palansky on Facebook; Seth Palansky on LinkedIn. Maybe Seth will read this and provide us with the social media accounts of this year’s point person. Seth?

Okay, so back to the WSOP… The 2010 WSOP action will pause for 4 months, then resume with the final table of the 10K Main Event being played by the November Nine November 6 – 9, 2010. Presuming that the 2010 ME final table schedule follows that of the 2009 ME final table, the November Nine will begin play around noon on Saturday, November 6 and play down – whatever time it takes - to the final two. Reaching the final two will probably happen sometime on Sunday the 7th. The final two will rest and resume play at 10:00 pm on Monday, November 8, when play is expected to continue until and be completed on Tuesday, November 9.

Did you know that you have a voice in who will play in the WSOP Tournament of Champions?  Well, you do – and – you get to choose 20 poker pros!  That’s a good number for each person. My only regret is that I could not choose 25! As I went through the list of poker pros, I had to replace some that I had chosen to accommodate others that I felt definitely should compete in the tournament. I guess that’s the point – choose the poker pros who deserve  it!

Here’s the list of poker pros I chose; some because they clearly deserve it from a career standpoint, some because I like the way they play and how they conduct themselves at the table, and some for nostalgic reasons.

After voting, I saw the Top 50 Poker Pros who had been voted for thus far. I was pleased to see that 16 of the 20 I had chosen were on the list. The list is a dynamic list that changes each time a vote is cast… so that will change.

Annie Duke, Mike Sexton, Joe Cada, Mike Matusow, and Barry Shulman are already in, so, are not included in the list of poker pros to vote for. 

It’s a really simple process.

1. You go to the tournament voting website and register to vote (valid e-mail address is required). 
2. WSOP sends an e-mail with a confirmation code.
3. You click the link in the confirmation e-mail and the list of poker pros displays in the center window.
4. Pros are listed in alphabetic order and you can select the letter of the alphabet by clicking below the list window.  Some letters have 2 and 3 pages, so, look for that. (I missed it the first time through.)

Registration for the 2010 WSOP is already open – online and at the Rio. And what are they doing to avoid the debacle of turning away players from the Main Event like in 2009?  Nothing! Here’s what has been posted at WSOP (bolding added by me):

Registration for all bracelet events will remain open until the start of the third level (approximately 2 hours, 20 minutes after start time) – or until all available seats have sold. Pre-registration for the 2010 WSOP is now available on-site at the Main Cage of the Rio in Las Vegas and online through www.wsop.com. This is the earliest registration has ever opened, as players now have more than five months to register for the first event, and more than six months to register for the Main Event.

Players are encouraged to register in advance to avoid being shutout of their favorite events… 

Players wanting to play in the 2010 WSOP Main Event have 6 months to register. Guess that’s fair enough!

2010 WSOP is the 41st Annual World Series of Poker
Thursday, May 27, 2010 to Friday, July 16, 2010 & November

• WSOP has released the 2010 WSOP Schedule.
• Will offer 57 events like in 2009.
• Five or six weekends feature $1,000 buy-in events.
• 2010 WSOP will open with a $50,000 buy-in Player’s Championship. Eight game format. Winner will take a bracelet and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.
• Main Event will start July 5, 2010. The 2010 Main Event will pause when 9 players are reached,  and as in 2008 and 2009, the final 9 will return in November.
• The 2010 November Nine will play it out November 6-9, 2010.
