2010 WSOP Main Event Dream Busted

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Two days ago I had a dream of seeing Johnny Chan and Scotty Nguyen at the 2010 WSOP Main Event final table. Scotty busted late on Day 5, so, yesterday, that dream was re-shaped into “Johnny Chan Makes the 2010 WSOP Main Event Final table.” I could live with that.  Today, my hopes are crushed.

For the last three days, the poll (in the right margin) has been “Will Johnny Chan make it to the November Nine?”. Of course, that was chosen as the poll because I believed that he was a shoe-in since he was placing in the top 20 for several days in a row.

Yesterday, he started play in 9th place with 2,559,000 chips; over a million more chips than average. About an hour into the day’s play, Chan suffered a crushing blow when his KhKc were dominated by another player’s AsAc. Nothing came on the board to improve either hand and Chan was down to 800,000 in chips.

A little over an hour later, Chan got JsJd and pushed All In (550,000 chips), only to be facing another player’s – you got it – AsAc! Same hand as the first blow.

Chan went out in 159th place, earning $57,102.

2009 November Nine Kaput in 2010 WSOP Main Event

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Alas, the last hopes for the 2009 November Nine to shine in the 2010 WSOP Main Event were dashed on Day 5 (Wednesday, the 14th), when the final remaining November Niner, Eric Buchman busted out in 549th place.

Buchman had started the day in 351st place, short stacked with 250,000 in chips. Prop bets aside, Buchman earned $24,709 for his 2010 WSOP Main Event efforts…plus a boat load of respect from fellow November Niners and poker pros alike. He beat out 6770 other runners!

Eric Buchman 2009 November Niner Still Fighting

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Struggling with a below average stack of 250,000 chips, Eric Buchman is the sole remaining 2009 November Niner competing in the 2010 WSOP Main Event. Buchman has made it to Day 5 which begins today (Wednesday) at Noon.  Starting the day in 351st position, Buchman will be competing against 573  other runners to become the 2010 Main Event champ.

Woot! Woot!  –> Johnny Chan still in the running with an above average stack of 1,159,000 chips. Gooooooooo Johnny!

Results for Justin Bonomo’s 2010 WSOP Prop Bet

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

All the 2010 WSOP events except the Main Event – which started yesterday - have concluded. So, how is Justin Bonomo doing with his 2010 WSOP Panorama Towers Prop Bet?

Well, on 6/12/2010 – David Baker won Event #19: 2-7 Draw Lowball World Championship (no Limit).

Congrats to Justin Bonomo!

Justin Bonomo’s 2010 WSOP Prop Bet

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Last year, Justin Bonomo bet 7 – 1 that at least one of the poker players from Panorama Towers would win a bracelet in the 2009 WSOP—and—he wasn’t disappointed…Greg Mueller won two bracelets!

Why’d he even make a bet like that? Well, because it is not such a long shot. During the 2009 WSOP, we learned from a conversation between Isaac Haxton and Justin Bonomo who were playing at the same table at the $40K 40th Anniversary No Limit Hold’Em tournament that somewhere between 40 – 80 poker players live in the Panorama Towers (during a WSOP). (I wrote about that conversation, Poker Pros Choose Panorama Towers, last year.)

Well, this year for the 2010 WSOP, Bonomo’s betting 10 – 1 that at least one poker player from Panorama Towers wins a bracelet. Here’s his post announcing this year’s Panorama Towers prop bet on the TwoPlusTwo Forum.

Justin Bonomo announces his 2010 WSOP Panorama Towers prop bet

Interest in Justin’s prop bet grew, and the Two Plus Two forum was laden with whine after whine (hear your child’s fussy “Are we there yet?”) about how quickly Justin could post the official list of poker pros living at Panorama Towers who would be included in his prop bet. Justin promised that he would post the official list by midnight 5/28/2010, and sure enough, a couple of days earlier, on 5/26/2010 he posted the official list of poker pros and the terms of the prop bet on Two Plus Two.
